There are two potential grants that fall under this category. The first of these grants is the Canada Student Grant for Students with Permanent Disabilities, which we’ll discuss below. Once that grant has been approved, students may also be eligible for the Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Students with Permanent Disabilities, which will be discussed here(new window).

Canada Student Grant for Students with Permanent Disabilities(new window)

This grant is available to students with disabilities for each year of your studies as long as you still qualify.

Eligibility

You could be eligible for this grant if you apply and:

  • Have a financial need
  • Are enrolled in a qualified program at a designated school(new window)
  • Qualify as a student with a permanent disability(new window); and
  • Include one of the following with your loan application as proof of your disability:
    • a medical certificate
    • a psycho-educational assessment; or
    • documents that prove you have received federal or provincial permanent disability assistance

How to Apply

To apply for this grant, consult your provincial Student Financial Services Department(new window) or at studentaid.gnb.ca(new window).

Grant Value

For the 2020 to 2021 school year, you could receive $4,000. You can get this grant for each year of your studies as long as you still qualify. The school year runs from August 1 of the current year to July 31 of the next year. If you qualify, and have an assessed need of $1,400, you will still receive the $4,000 grant. In this case, the grant would cover your assessed need, so you would not need a student loan.

Note: This grant is not available to students from the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Quebec. They have their own student aid programs.
