Paper agendas are a great way to stay organized, but for a lot of students, working with paper is not always ideal. App-based agendas are much more accessible, and they give students with learning disabilities the ability to take advantage of built in features such as speech-to-text, text-to-speech, etc. And, going virtual over paper means that users don’t have to worry about remembering to bring their agenda, so as long as the student has a smart phone, they’ll have everything they need to stay organized and on top of their assignments.
Egenda is a virtual agenda app that takes a simplistic and straightforward approach to student planning. It’s not exactly jam-packed with extra features, but it certainly gets the job done, and for students who are prone to distraction, or just crave simplicity, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
When students first open the app, they are asked to add their classes, and choose to a color for each. This allows students to quickly differentiate between subject matter with just a quick glance. Once a user’s classes have been inputted, the setup is more or less complete, and students can begin planning. Entries can be categorized as assignments, projects, quizzes, and tests, and each entry supports notes, so users can get quick reminders and other important information as they scroll through assignments.
A calendar view makes it easy to see what assignments are due when, and the built-in notification system will help ensure that students do not forget about their upcoming work. Completed assignments can be marked as such, and they will appear in the completed tab for easy viewing and or review.
Egenda also supports speech-to-text input as well as screen-reading technology, allowing low-vision users to stay organized while staying (mostly) hands-free.
Egenda is available for Android and iOS, and it is completely free. Click here(new window) to learn more.
