When it comes to learning, whether it’s math, social studies, language arts, or any other subject matter, we know that learning that topic in school is almost always the best approach. And we also know that having that information delivered by a teacher is over and above the best way to deliver instruction, for a variety of reasons.

But what about when it’s after hours, and the teacher is not available to answer a specific question? Or if the student is tasked with independently solving an extensive equation that includes steps or concepts that they don’t yet fully understand. Maybe there’s one small concept holding them back, but they are too shy to interrupt a busy classroom to re-visit the concept with which they are struggling. Of course, for those who can afford it, tutoring is probably the best option, because as we stated earlier, human based instruction is always ideal. But not everyone has the time or money for tutoring. So, what other options are there?

MathMaster is an AI-powered math-solver app that recognizes handwriting, photos, or text directly inputted into the app. This is incredibly useful to students who struggle with math or learning disabilities in general as it not only gives them options in how they want to input and represent their math, but it also allows them to revisit difficult math concepts independently, and then practice their knowledge.

The app also features some very helpful resources through the Knowledge tab, including blogs, study guides, exam tips, formula sheets, and more.

The Ask Expert tab allows students to spend “coins” to send their question to a human expert. The “experts” will then review the equation and provide either a step-by-step explanation, or just the solution to a given problem.

And finally, and perhaps most impressive of all, is the AI Tutor. AI technology has made some incredible leaps in recent years, and that is definitely evident when conversing with MathMaster’s built-in AI tutor. If you ask it a bigger, more open-ended query like “Explain long division.” You get a long and detailed explanation of the concept, plus an example of what that equation looks like in practical terms. Ask the AI “What is 2×4/8?” It quickly explains the concept of PEMDAS, breaks down the equation, and provides a concise response. I tested a few distinct types of queries covering concepts from a few different age groups, and I was always impressed by the depth of the answers given.

MathMaster covers a wide variety of concepts, including:

  • Basic Math/Pre-Algebra: arithmetic, integers, fractions, decimal numbers, powers, roots, factors
  • Algebra: linear equations/inequalities, quadratic equations, systems of equations, logarithms, functions, matrices, graphing, polynomials
  • Trigonometry/Precalculus: identities, sequences and series, logarithmic functions
  • Calculus: limits, derivatives, integrals
  • Statistics: combinations, factorials
