There’s plenty of great Math apps available for children, but today we are going to look at an app that takes an especially unique and novel approach to teaching math that we haven’t really seen before.
Synthesis Tutor is an adaptive teaching app that goes beyond providing math lessons and tools. The app is driven by an interactive digital teacher that intelligently guides students through their lessons, and adjusts the content as needed, based on the child’s performance and understanding. The AI is friendly and conversational, and it does a great job of presenting math to students in a casual, non-threatening way, which is perfect for students who have anxiety around math.
When your child is first introduced to the digital tutor, they are invited to take part in a quick assessment. Right away, the app encourages them to choose their learning soundtrack, which I thought was a great way to set the tone for the casual approach that the AI takes to teaching.
But even though the AI tutor is casual in tone, it covers all the basic early math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, word problems, place value, number sense and more. The math practice is gamified and designed to be fun as well as educational, and the flashcard system is AI driven and adapts to your child’s skills in real-time.

Synthesis Tutor also contains some built-in accessibility features, including adjustable voice type and voice speed, the option to have answer choices read aloud, and even the ability to switch to dyslexic font.
This app has lots of potential for any student who is beginning to learn math, but it could be especially helpful for learners who have ADHD or math-related anxiety.
Synthesis Tutor is available for iPad only. A seven-day free trial is available, and after that, the cost for the app is $59 Canadian per month, although discounts are frequently offered. To learn more, click here (new window).
