We’ve tested a variety of Math apps in the past and generally these apps focus on one or two functions or features. Today we are going to look at a collection of math learning apps that cover a wide variety of math topics. And while the mobile versions are available for iOS only, the web version of each app can easily be opened or installed on any operating system.
The Math Learning Center by Bridges in Mathematics offers a suite of completely free math apps and activities for students from pre-K to grade 5. The best way to access this collection is by going here (new window). From there, you can navigate the various apps and activities that are available.
As of right now, the math apps available are:
Fractions – Use circles or bars to represent, compare, and perform operations with fractions from 1 to 100.
Geoboard – Virtually stretch bands around the geoboard in order to learn about perimeter, area, angles, congruence, fractions, and more.
Math Clock – Learn how to use analog clocks, contextualize fractions, learn time intervals, etc.
Math Vocabulary – Explore math terms with flash cards. Each card features three sections: a math term, a representative example or model, and a definition.
Money Pieces – Visualize money values in U.S. currency with coin or bill-based representations.
Number Chart – Explore numbers in a grid-based format.
Number Frames – This app is designed to structure groups of numbers by 5,10,20, and 100. This is meant to help students move away from counting one-by-one and instead move towards more efficient ways of counting.
Number Line – Visualize math sequences by solving equations that are set onto an adjustable line
Number Pieces – This app offers a virtual set of base ten pieces which can be used to represent single, double-, or triple-digit numbers.
Number Rack – Use beads to show and work with numbers in groups of 5s and 10s.
Partial Product Finder – This tool helps you understand basic facts and strategies for multiplication of larger numbers.
Pattern Shapes – Use virtual pattern blocks to explore geometric concepts including angles, symmetry, and more.
Whiteboard App – Solve problems in a digital workspace.
There’s also a variety of math activities that can be accessed for free from the “App Activities” tab. Topics include Addition, Counting, Data Decimals, Division, Fractions, Geometry, Measurement, Multiplication Patterns, Place Value Subtraction, and more.
