When it comes to speech recognition software, Dragon is widely considered to be the best. However, this software is highly specialized, and it requires much more training and troubleshooting than your average piece of assistive technology software.

VoiceComputer is an add-on for Dragon that was designed to alleviate some of the problems associated with using such a specialized piece of software. With VoiceComputer, items on your computer screen become numbered, and to access them, all you have to do is say “task 4” or “task 1” and the associated task or function will open.

Since Dragon was designed for individuals who require speech recognition due to their disability or because of physical injuries or limitations, the idea is to create an experience that is as “hands-free” as possible. And while that is still feasible with the standalone version of the app, the VoiceComputer add-on makes it all that much easier to achieve that goal.

The add-on also allows you to easily re-position or re-size an application, even when you have multiple apps open across multiple monitors. With the standalone version of Dragon, this would require dozens of commands.

The Voice Mouse function turns your computer screen into a numbered grid that allows you to easily move around your screen using simple voice commands.

VoiceComputer also allows you to create custom commands called Voice Shortcuts. With this function, you can easily create specific commands for your favorite apps without any scripting or programming required.

The built-in help menu contains tutorials, lessons, exercises, and videos designed to teach you everything you need to know to use VoiceComputer, and it’s all hands-free. So, if you get stuck or simply want to learn how to better use the app, you can easily access the information you need, hands-free, and you won’t need to navigate out of the app to YouTube or elsewhere online.
